More and more we are becoming aware of the seriousness of mold inside our Connecticut homes. Mold poses a serious threat to the quality of the air inside the home. For some, it can be life-threatening, for others a mild irritant.

Mold Screenings By Fairfield County Home Inspection L.L.C can detect the presence of a microbial problem in the inspected areas of the building. From there you can take steps to get rid of the mold and to decrease the risk of future mold growth.

The Mold Screen consists of a visual inspection by Fairfield County Home inspection L.L.C mold inspector in readily accessible areas for mold and/or conditions that may indicate the presence of mold such as musty odor and/or evidence of water penetration. If you have particular spaces you want to target, our inspector can take samples in an area detected by you.The objective of the Mold Screen is to determine whether mold problems exist in the readily accessible area(s) sampled at the time the Mold Screen is performed. As such, the results of your Mold Screening are not a guarantee that mold does or does not / will or will not exist in the house; the results are indicative only of the presence or absence of mold in the areas sampled at the time the Mold Screen is performed. Unfortunately, there is no economically practical method to make these areas accessible. However, they may be subject to attack by microbial organisms.

After the visual inspection at least two air samples (one indoor and one outdoor) and or along with a carpet, swab, or additional air sample in one of the common areas will be conducted. The samples will be sent to our approved lab, which will analyze them for the presence of mold. The lab report will detail the presence and types of mold, if any, found in the samples. If mold is detected, we will recommend appropriate and necessary actions to control the mold.

It is important to dry water damaged areas and items within 24-48 hours to prevent mold growth. If mold is a problem in your Connecticut home, clean up the mold and get rid of the excess water or moisture. Fix leaky plumbing or other sources of water. Wash mold off hard surfaces with detergent and water, and dry completely. Absorbent materials (such as ceiling tiles & carpet) that become moldy may have to be replaced

Molds reproduce by means of tiny spores; the spores are invisible to the naked eye and float through outdoor and indoor air. Molds need three things to thrive: moisture, food and a surface to grow on – all of which are in abundance in your home

Molds usually not a problem indoors, unless there is a source of mold spores in an area where aerosolitation and human exposure can occur. Molds have the potential to cause health problems. Molds produce allergens (substances that can cause allergic reactions), irritants, and in some cases, potentially toxic substances (mycotoxins). Allergic responses include hay fever-type symptoms, such as sneezing, runny nose, red eyes, and skin rash (dermatitis). Allergic reactions to mold are common. They can be immediate or delayed. Molds can also cause asthma attacks in people with asthma who are allergic to mold. Research on mold and health effects is ongoing. It is impossible to get rid of all mold and mold spores indoors; some mold spores will be found floating through the air and in house dust. The mold spores will not grow if moisture is not present. Indoor mold growth can and should be prevented or controlled by controlling moisture indoors. If there is mold growth in your home, you must clean up the mold and fix the water problem. If you clean up the mold, but don’t fix the water problem, then, most likely, the mold problem will come back.
